People want to look away from pain. They want to turn away from things that upset their world order.
No one wants to talk about war. It’s scary. It’s heart wrenching. It’s sickening.
No one wants to acknowledge the erosion of human rights taking place all around the world.
No one wants to pay heed to science and what the study tells us about our environment.
Acknowledgement is more than understanding the present. It must reckon with what has already taken place.
The genocides of yesterday have become today’s war path. Restricting human rights for anyone, lays the ground work for restricting them for everyone. And all the while, our planet boils and storms rage. The value of truth eroded to the point where no one believes the warnings.
No peoples are safe from the greed of the wealthy. Those currently amassing all the power, care only about themselves and treat human lives like an expendable resource.
Our attention is the most valuable resource we have. And they would control that too.
Don’t turn away. Bear witness to the pain being wrought by leaders we allowed into power. And spread the word.
Scare tactics and violence cannot be enough to keep us silent to the horrors. Nation states are nothing without their people and Fascism will be made to fall.
Fascism thrives in the dark; shadowed by our indifference. However, these oppressors will wither in the light of our attention.
Do not turn away.
